Museum of Historical Makeovers (sampling from 2009 – present)

In this ongoing satirical series, I use humor to explore primarily gender and beauty issues through mock historical artifacts and documentation. Leveraging the exaggerated authority of institutional settings, I often include wry, museum-style labeling and audio tour when presenting the work. It’s an enjoyable challenge for me to create “museum-grade” works in a wide range of art historical styles and media such as sculpture, diorama, video, photography, prints, and drawings. A performance aspect as “curator” complements the work via lectures delivered with fictitious academic excellence and dry humor.

The “Museum of Historical Makeovers” umbrella includes many sub-series including The Gwen Stefani Grand Burial Exhibition, Mascara Forests, and Bleaching and Waxing, all of which can be discovered in the filterable archive.
