Disgraced Patriarchal Monuments

I satirize traditional statue formats to suggest that in the future, ultra-patriarchal monuments will be created in a knee-jerk response to the rise of women in power. My logic follows the documented increase in Confederate monuments commissioned in the 20th century in an effort to rewrite the narrative of the Civil War.
Presented as if discovered at the dump, these disgraced patriarchal monuments are inscribed with the words “Mansplaining,” Virilitas (Latin for virility), and “Always on Top.” The sculptures were actually created at the San Francisco dump from recycled materials at the Recology Artist-in-Residence Program in San Francisco. They were included in my solo exhibition Toppled Times at Recology in 2020.
